Living in a big city, I can choose from about ten different coffee makers within a few blocks of my apartment. This is a great thing that I definitely try to take advantage of.

It was just last week when I stumbled upon my favorite new coffee. In fact, this is the best coffee I’ve ever tried in my life. That’s a really bold statement when you consider how much coffee I actually drink.

While Stumptown Coffee Roasters was formerly a coffee maker with a presence limited to the Pacific Northwest, the a personal move by the founder to the East coast has led to a New York presence.

I’ve stuck to the regular coffee so far, and that’s seriously all I’ve needed in order to be sold. I’m hooked on it, and the iced and hot varieties are both fantastic. I’ve heard that the cappuccino is phenomenal as well.

Interestingly enough, the prices aren’t much higher than those that you’d find at a Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts. This is a great thing when you consider the difference in the quality of the beans. One negative is the fact that they only accept cash, though I don’t know if that’s specific to the location I’ve been to.

Amazingly, Stumptown Coffee Roasters almost has a cult-like following. Those who’ve tried it swear by the brand and refuse to drink any other kind of coffee.

Seattle residents are going as far as saying that Stumptown has the best coffee in their city. When a coffee chain is winning the praise of drinkers in a huge coffee city like Seattle, I think the praise speaks for itself.

Make it a point to get to a Stumptown if you live in a city with a location. While there aren’t many of them, it’s worth the small trip if it requires a few extra minutes of your time.

If you love coffee, then you already know that it will taste better if it is freshly ground. Wouldn't it be great to have that coffee shop freshness in your home every day?

If you love coffee, then you already know that it will taste better if it is freshly ground. Wouldn’t it be great to have that coffee shop freshness in your home every day? A good coffee bean grinder will ensure that your coffee is always as fresh as possible.

There are several advantages to grinding your own coffee beans, but perhaps the most important (besides freshness) is that you have complete control over how fine the grind is. If you know your coffee, you know just how important that is. So perhaps you’re now at least a little bit curious as to how you grind your beans.

If you haven’t tried grinding your own beans yet, maybe you think it’s hard to do. It isn’t. Or maybe you think it’s a messy process. Again, this simply isn’t correct.

Sure it’s easier to just break out the can opener and start brewing, but the difference in taste is remarkable. And once you grind your own beans for the first time, you may never purchase canned coffee again.

The reason there’s such a difference is because ground beans begin to deteriorate almost immediately. That means they quickly lose some of their taste and smell. Grinding your own beans will naturally result in a better tasting and better smelling cup. Just grind up your beans right before you brew, and the result will be a flavorful and aroma full cup every time.

So let’s talk about the different grinders available. There are two that are popular. One is the blade grinder, the other is called a burr grinder.

Blade grinders are less expensive. Basically they function like a blender, only smaller. They use the blades inside to do the grinding. And while these are still better than buying your coffee in a can, they do not produce the best results. When you grind coffee beans you want to get a large surface that can be exposed to the hot water. The greater the surface exposure, the more oils and flavor will be extracted. Blade grinders do not produce an even grind, especially the less expensive models. The result is that most coffee experts consider them inferior.

Burr grinders meanwhile are typically used in high quality coffee houses because they give a much better grind. The burrs, or metal discs, are spaced to precise specifications, giving you a grind that is more even. A more even grind means a better cup. And it doesn’t matter what type of coffee you like best because these grinders are adjustable. So if you like Turkish drip or automatic drip, you can set your burr grinder to give you the grind you like best.

Not everybody likes their coffee the same way. In a lot of ways, perfect coffee is very subjective. But something every coffee lover can agree on is that freshly ground coffee just tastes better. So really, whether you get a burr or blade coffee bean grinder, you’ll always end up with a cup of coffee that is better than what you currently drink. Try it once and you may never again buy a can of coffee that is already ground.

And just think how much easier it will be to get up when the alarm goes off, knowing you will have a great tasting, fresh cup of coffee available in just minutes.

For a great cup of coffee every time we recommend you think about getting an Aquabrew Coffee Maker. And if espresso is your favorite you need to consider purchasing a Saeco Aroma Espresso Machine.

Latte art is basically the ability to draw on coffee or more specifically the most common coffee used for latte art – espresso, because of its density. The drawing happens in two ways. You can either pour milk in the cup of espresso thus creating a pattern form, special design or a portrait on the top espresso layer which is mainly foam. The other latte art style is named etching and it is done by using a plastic stick. However for a good latte art to be created you need a good espresso machine and a barista who knows what he is doing and possesses some talent. Latte art has been around us for centuries, but it has become more popular in the last years and you can even go to classes which educate you to be a barista. Barista is basically the formal name of the artist who creates the latte art.

Latte art develops in different tempos depending on the country. However it wasn’t a well known art before several years, but because of the recent advance in micro foam research and the developing of the espresso it has become even more popular. The country that is considered the birthplace of espresso is Italy. Latte art needs two main ingredients to be created – foam and crema. Foam is nothing more than buffed up milk and it is buffed by mixing it with air. Crema is the brown cream that appears on top of the espresso. However those two mixtures dissipate rapidly and you can enjoy latte art only for a few minutes.

For latte art to be possible the espresso must have a cream like brown surface which is most commonly called crema for short. Afterwards the foam is poured into the cup and the foam from the milk rises to the surface thus creating a contrast between the colors of the espresso and the foam. From now on there are two ways to create latte art. Just by pouring the milk and moving the pitcher or by pouring it all and then using a stick to draw the pattern or form. The style which only consists of pouring is called “free pouring” and takes little time to create while the other style is called etching and using it you may have to wait a while for your beverage to be decorated, but the etching is much more precise and beautiful.

Free pouring is only used to create the simplest forms and shapes. You will most often see various flower types and hearts done with free pouring while the style of etching allows the barista to create much clearer, complex and sharper images thus allowing him to even create a portrait in the coffee. However etching is much harder to master than free pouring and you will need a lot of practice and training until you can achieve perfect results that will satisfy even the strictest customers.

Latte art is a beautiful way to change the way your beverage looks like. Despite the fact that you can order a specially drawn espresso you can also learn the latte art yourself just by practicing or visiting special classes. And the best part of latte art is that you can learn it in your home just by practicing on your morning coffee without having to buy any extra stuff, but however the mixture between ordinary coffee and foam will result in more translucent forms, but still visible.

There’s nothing quite like a cup of coffee in the morning. The aroma alone seems to wake you up and fill you with energy. And these days there are so many varieties available that it’s hard to choose. It could easily take a lifetime (or several) to work your way through all they varieties of coffee sold today.

But all this coffee raises an interesting question. Who can make the perfect cup of coffee: a person or a machine??

Coffee drinkers use coffee makers for the convenience these machines offer. But not everyone sings their praises – some feel that coffee machines offer an easy cup of coffee, but do so by sacrificing taste. But recent innovations in coffee maker technology try to prove the critics wrong.

These days coffee machines can prepare each cup with an accuracy that was only dreamed of a few years ago. They get the water temperature right, the timing is down to a split-second and the ingredients are measured to near-perfection. Made to produce the best cup of coffee every time, these smart coffee machines like the Jura Z6 make each cup as delicious as possible.

But a coffee machine is still a machine. And there is only so much a machine can do automatically.

Coffee machines are defined by their pre-determined functions. Beyond their functions, they can do nothing else. They can’t customize each cup of coffee to fit your character; they make each cup the same way. A lot of people enjoy that their coffee is brewed exactly the same way each and every time. But not everyone.

For many, the uniqueness of each cup of coffee is something they look forward to. The mystery of the subtle differences in each cup are part of the joy of drinking coffee. And sometimes a “mistake” in the coffee making process will produce a cup that is much more to our liking.

So instead of a machine, lets consider the humble barista. Just what is a barista?

A barista is a person dedicated to creating the perfect cup of coffee (at least, the good ones are). They select, grind, blend, brew, taste and test over and over to find the best way to make the coffee just right. They innovate, always thinking of new ways to delight you with that ever-flavorful coffee bean.

They are also human, so every cup will be unique — a flavor infused with the humanity of the barista. However, their humanity is also a limitation. Unlike a coffee maker, baristas can’t just start making coffee whenever you want them to. You can’t just turn on a barista at any time of the day and tell the person to make you coffee.

Also, being human makes the barista imperfect. A barista isn’t a machine that does everything exactly the same way every single time – every coffee made is unique.

Sometimes, the quirks of a barista make the coffee taste horrible. But just as often, the barista adds enough quirks to the process to make the perfect coffee. If you think about it, a modern barista can benefit hugely from the right coffee machine. They need all the help they can get, if they want to succeed.

Coffee makers and baristas work mutually. The barista chooses the ingredients, finds the right flavors for the right people and guarantees that the coffee will turn out with the quirks and personality of each person. The coffee maker takes those ingredients and transforms them into what the barista envisions – the right cup for the right person.

Become your own barista. Whether you use the latest automatic coffee machine or simple drip coffee makers, the combination of (wo)man and machine is the key to the perfect cup of coffee.
