Why Does Everyone Like Coffee So Much?

Coffee is a global phenomenon, do you realise we drink over a billion cups of this tasty drink around the world every day? Yes that is billion in a day! We can’t get enough of this innocent little drink, yet why do we love it so much, let’s look at the top reasons.

Caffeine - Ah yes, this has to be the first and main reason why people drink coffee. Now not everyone drinks coffee for the kick it gives you, I got off that rollercoaster years ago and only drink decaffeinated now, but only something like 10% of coffee consumed is decaff.

Caffeine is a stimulant which is why people crave it so much, when we wake up in the morning and we have to drag ourselves out of our warm bed and into the cold of the morning to get to work? then it is nice to jumpstart our senses with a cup of coffee. Then the caffeine enters our system and squashes our tiredness and makes us more alert, it also raises our dopamine levels like an amphetamine, which makes you feel good (until it wears off).

What most people don’t realise though, is that caffeine is actually classed as a psychoactive drug and you can get addicted to it. This is especially true because after the initial ‘high’ where you have more energy and you feel good, then after an hour or so (longer if people are not used to it) then you will ‘crash’ and start to feel worse than before you had a cup. The only solution to that is then to have another cup to pick yourself up, and the cycle begins again.

Taste - In a world dominated by sugary, carbonated beverages, then it is nice to have something like coffee which is more of a savoury taste. It is something entirely different to other kinds of drinks, which makes it more appealing.

Social reasons - When you go round to see a friend, what is the first thing they ask you? If you’d like a cup of tea or coffee! It has become such a big part of our daily routine that you can’t escape it, everyone is drinking it and you can get access to it in the most obscure of places. So even if you don’t drink it a lot, then you will find yourself nursing a cup at some time or another when you are out and about.

Temperature - If we didn’t have coffee and tea, then it is hard to think of other warm drinks that would fill that void. There is something comforting, as well as warming of course, about having a warm drink, and personally I prefer it to any other kind of drink out there.

So the world is firmly in the grip of coffeemania and I don’t see that slowing up anytime soon, it has become a welcome fixture in our lives. Anyway I’m off to put the kettle on – do you fancy a cup?

If you want a real cup of coffee and you want it fast, then there is no better way to get it than using a good coffee maker. There are so many different ones to choose from, but a Zojirushi Coffee Maker would be a great choice.
